The International Gay Figure Skating Union

This association was started in the early 1990s, when figure skating was being added to the New York Gay Games roster. After being dormant for a number of years, it was revived at the time of the 1998 Amsterdam Gay Games. In August 2001, the IGFSU became an administrative member of the Ice Skating Institute. This means the IGFSU can hold competitions under ISI rules, including the category called "Couples," which allows two people to skate together without gender restrictions.

June 20, 2000

Dear New York area skaters,

Sunday, June 25th, we will be marching with other GLBT athletes in the Gay Pride March. Team NY will lead the athletic contingent, followed by individual sports groups. We will be there with the IGFSU flag. We are part of the last group to march this year so meet at 1:30 p.m. on 54th St between Madison & 5th Ave or join in somewhere along the route if you like to watch.

If you are planning to join us for the March you are encouraged to march in either skating costume or skating related tee shirt. Free IGFSU or Team NY Figure Skating Tee shirts to anyone who joins in for the whole march. RSVP to IGFSU@aol.com with size and tee-shirt preference. Shirts will be waiting for you in the Team NY vehicle at 54th between Madison and 5th. Rollerblades encouraged.

Team NY invites you to ENCORE TO PRIDE: An Evening With Team NY on Thursday, June 29th from 7 - 11 p.m. at Stepping Out Studios (1780 Broadway @ 57th St). In addition to an LGBT art exhibit where 20% of each sold art piece will benefit Team NY, there will be cabaret & comedy (including performances by Nora Burns, Fabulosa Linguine & Deian McBryde and hosted by comedian, Bob Montgomery), a Poetry Slam competition, as well as Ballroom, Latin & Disco Dancing. You will also be able to watch some dance exhibitions (I'm not talking about Saturday Night Fever stuff, however) and also receive some partnered dance lessons courtesy of OUTdancing, the gay & lesbian dance group. Heritage of Pride & Front Runners NY will be presented with the 1st annual Team NY "Team Spirit" Awards. And, you can also enjoy complimentary beer, wine, soda, bottled water and a light meal for only $15 ($10 TNY members!). Let me know how many tickets you need. I can get them to you at SkyRink or leave them w/ my doorman at 410 W 24th St. Capacity is limited and tickets at the door, if available, will be $20.

Team NY is attempting to raise funds to produce & promote local athletic & cultural events and competitions as well as to provide uniforms for our members and offset some travel expenses to attend Gay Games VI Sports & Cultural Festival held in Sydney Australia from Oct 25 - Nov 9 of 2002.

Currently, Team NY is helping to promote several sporting events as part of the Team New York Sports & Cultural Festival 2000 as well. Please come out to cheer on your favorite jocks and jockettes on Saturday, June 24th at the following events:
